Everyone Has a Technique to Control Anger

It seems that everyone has a technique to control anger. Most of the specifics are good. But let’s get to the heart of the matter.

Anger is a learned response. It was learned in the formative years of childhood and carried forth in our memories into subsequent years as a child, teenager and on into adulthood. Since it is learned there really is no medication to be prescribed or taken to wipe out this memory.

On the other hand, there are new responses to be learned to overcome those old angry responses. Put simply, this new learning suppresses the old memories and allows for a new response when situations that may cause anger issues arise.

You are not crazy! You are not abnormal! You just need to be trained to respond differently!

Unfortunately, we have never been trained to control our anger. Our elementary, secondary and even college educations have woefully neglected this area.

Dr. Steven J. Sinert is a Certified Anger Management Provider and Diplomate of the American Association of Anger Management Providers. His Anger Management Training Classes offer not only Anger Management Control but also Stress Control, an improvement in Communications and an enhancement of Emotional Intelligence in a comfortable office setting either in group sessions or as one-on-one training.

Once learned, your responses will improve, your health will improve and your interpersonal relationships will improve as well.

Which is better: Live Classes or Online Classes?

Which is better: Live Classes or Online Classes? Our experience shows that live Anger Management Training classes whether one on one sessions or group sessions are better for most individuals.

In a group setting you experience an interaction between yourself and the group and teacher. You can ask questions and have a dialogue with others in the class, something you cannot do when sitting in front of your computer screen.

If you are well motivated to seek anger Management Training, the difference in cost will be minimal.

And, remember this: You cannot really learn to play a violin or piano by reading a book. Many Anger Management books have been written and read by countless individuals but they still continue to experience inappropriate angry responses such as verbal or physical abuse.

Nevada Anger Management continues to offer live Group and Individual Anger Management Training facilitated by a Certified Anger Management Provider. Our program specializes in Anger Management, Stress Management, Improvement in Communications and enhancement of Emotional Intelligence. Also, our program is recognized by most Nevada Courts as well as courts in other states.

Blackberry Anger

So, you’re walking in a store or in an airport or even on the street when the person in front of you stops short and just stands there in front of you while texting a message on their Blackberry. You cannot help but bang into them.

Maybe you exchange a few heated words and then move on. In this situation you became angry because of their inconsiderate behavior. The same scenario can occur in the supermarket when you’re behind someone who’s pushing a shopping cart and stops short in front of you or even on the road when you’re driving (that is the inconsiderate behavior without a Blackberry but maybe while they’re speaking on a cell phone).

Think of STRESS as a pressure against you. When you have no control over stress you can experience frustration and this can lead to an angry response. In the case of an inconsiderate driver ROAD RAGE can occur. In the case of the Blackberry texting person you might not have a full blown raging angry situation.

In these situations we recommend taking a very deep breath or two and exhaling slowly trying to relax. Usually the stressful situation will disappear with no consequence. In no case should you confront the other individual with angry words or an inappropriate response to their inconsiderate behavior which will be viewed by them as aggression.

The Juke Box Within

Starting in childhood and proceeding over time into our teens and adulthood, many of our responses to life’s stresses become automatic. We develop responses and they’re stored inside of us much like records are stored in a juke box.

The next time we’re faced with the same or similar problems or stresses our automatic response system, our juke box if you will, spews out our stored response much like hitting the buttons on a real juke box and our music choice is played.

It’s easier than creating a new response.

However, if that response is one of anger with an inappropriate response of verbal or physical abuse, the storage system needs to be changed, much like you’d change old records in a juke box.

That change is created by new learning which is exactly what Anger Management Training strives to do. We teach you new responses to your stresses, new control of your anger, how to improve your communications ability and, lastly, how to improve your emotional intelligence so that you can incorporate the understanding of feelings into your responses.

If your juke box has old tunes which need to be changed, please contact

Anger in the Workplace

Let’s take a look at anger and see what it is, where it comes from, who has it and what we can do about it and how it can affect the workplace.

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary “anger is an intense emotional state induced by displeasure.” As stated by George Anderson, MSW, in his book GAINING CONTROL OF OURSELVES, “anger is a reaction to an inner emotion…it is an energy that serves a purpose by giving people the drive and determination to cope with difficult situations.”

Anger is a response to stress and frustrations which we all face. Stresses are found in all of our lives every day. They cause us to react. Stress and anger are normal and necessary components in our lives. Anger is a secondary emotion which in the basic sense is one method the body uses to protect itself and its needs.

Who in your office is angry? Is it the receptionist at the front desk taking your telephone calls or greeting your clients? Or is it another employee?

Or is it you who may be facing the stress of a heavy work schedule with too many clients and not enough time or did you bring that anger to work with you this morning from another source, for example the mechanic who gave you a large unexpected estimate for an automobile repair?

Anger is a normal state of mind. At some time or other we all get angry. How we handle that anger is what could be healthy or not. If anger causes an inappropriate response such as verbal or physical abuse it is not healthy and if this behavior is recurrent it requires Anger Management Training.

Furthermore, if inappropriate angry responses continue and if your workplace staff or your clients are exposed to this behavior, you may face serious complications such as loss of clients, loss of business and revenue and/or employees, and possible lawsuits by former staff members all of which can lead to additional stress and frustration and more anger.

The Human Resource Departments of many corporations recognize the need for Anger Management Training for their employees who may be involved in recurrent angry situations with clients, co-workers and superiors.

Anger Management programs should include the following components:

1) Anger Control
2) Stress Control
3) Improvement of Communication Skills
4) Enhancement of Emotional Intelligence

These programs are “teaching” programs not therapy. Anger is a learned response (probably learned in early childhood and carried through into adulthood). By teaching new behavioral techniques to cope with anger and stress, by learning to communicate better and by improving emotional intelligence which, again according to George Anderson, “is the ability to understand one’s own feelings and behavior as well as the capacity to sense the feelings and needs of others and to utilize the information in a way that enhances interpersonal relationships,” then we will be able to control inappropriate behavior such as angry outbursts, rage responses, verbal and physical abuse.

And Anger Management Programs can be most successful with those individuals who have the greatest motivation to seek improvement. An employee in your office, faced with termination unless a course is completed in its entirety, can be well motivated.

The Cost of Anger - Part IV

The cost of anger is not only a monetary cost or loss of family, relationships, friends, co-workers or jobs. It can also be a loss of your good health! Stress and Frustration are the leading causes of uncontrolled anger.

It has been said that Recurrent Anger and Stress can elevate Blood Pressure and Cholesterol, can increase Blood Sugar and Diabetes, can precipitate Gastrointestinal problems or make existing problems worse.

Additionally, Headaches, Fatigue, Muscle Tension, Nervous Feelings and Depression can occur.

So what price do YOU pay for Uncontrolled Stress and Recurrent Anger?

Since Anger is a learned response, Nevada Anger Management can teach you ways to control your anger and your stress. Dr. Steven J. Sinert is a Certified Anger Management Provider.

THE COST OF ANGER - PART III

I want to now discuss relationship costs. Relationships are the interactions between you and your spouses or significant others, your children, other family members and friends.

I don’t think you can put an actual dollar cost on the loss of a relationship. In many respects, the loss of a relationship with someone you love can be very expensive.

Physically or verbally abusing a loved one is the result of frustrations, stress and angry responses. How many divorces occur because of this? It has been stated that some 50% of all marriages end in divorce. The actual dollar costs of a divorce, alimony and support are huge.

What about the loss of your relationship with your children? Can you put a dollar cost on that? I think not.

So, how can Nevada Anger Management and Dr. Steven J. Sinert help?

First, Dr. Sinert is a Certified Anger Management Provider.

Second, our program is a training course, not therapy. We strive to enrich our client's lives by imparting practical knowledge for managing Stress and Anger, by improving Communication Skills and increasing Emotional Intelligence and thereby reducing the potential for violent and inappropriate behavior.

THE COST OF ANGER – PART II

Another area where an inappropriate angry response can occur is in the workplace, between you and a fellow employee or between you and your boss or supervisor.

The cost of this encounter can very well be your job and even a lawsuit. Do I need to explain the costs of your defense in a lawsuit brought by a fellow worker against you? And what about the costs associated with losing your job or your home?

Worse, how do you think that blemish will look on your work record or resume? Who will want to hire you when you have a history of anger in the workplace?

The answer is really quite simple.

Nevada Anger Management holds live group sessions weekly in comfortable office settings at several convenient locations in the greater Las Vegas and Henderson areas. Dr. Steven J. Sinert is a Certified Anger Management Provider. We are court approved and have received many referrals from corporate Human Resource Departments.

Anger Management is not Therapy but rather an educational endeavor. We will train you how to handle stressful situations so that frustrations remain at a minimum. We will also train you how to control your anger and cope.

Next, we will work to improve your Communications skills so you can speak more clearly and understand what others say.

Lastly, we will help you enhance your Emotional Intelligence so you can understand the meanings of what you and others say and feel.

Workplace anger is expensive. Anger Management Training is not.

THE COST OF ANGER – PART I

So you’ve had an angry outburst with some inappropriate behavior. What will that outburst cost you? Well that depends on the specifics of the situation. In this blog I will deal with the costs of an angry response at home with your spouse.

If your angry response occurred at home with your spouse and involved any physical altercation, your spouse could make an official complaint to the police and have you arrested! This will require a court appearance and representation by an attorney. When you finally see the judge, he may fine you, order you to pay court costs for yourself and your spouse, attorney fees for your spouse or limit visitation with your children and or spouse. He may also order that you seek an Anger Management Program.

Costs for any or all of these can well be into the thousands of dollars. So what did you gain?

You may think that you’ve made a point, even that you feel better from getting angry. But I can assure you, you have made no points with your spouse or the judge. And when you calm down enough to realize what’s happened, you’ll see that you really don’t feel better at all.

The costs for a serious angry outburst with either physical or verbal abuse against a spouse can be great and can affect your life in ways you cannot even imagine.

Anger Management Training by a Certified Anger Management Provider can actually be less expensive in the long run. It can improve your life, your relationships and your health.

Nevada Anger Management holds live group sessions weekly in comfortable office settings at several convenient locations in the greater Las Vegas and Henderson areas. And we are court approved!

Our students come from many different education levels, from many different occupations and from a wide geographic area. They are motivated to learn how to control their anger and stress.

Are you motivated to have a better life? Let us show you how much better!

The 10/90 Rule

10% of Life are the happening events; 90% are our responses!

So here we are living our lives and responding to those events which affect us. All of those happening events are stresses brought to bear on our very being. 10 % of life represents all of those happening events. 90% of our lives represents our responses to those stresses.

It is important to understand that stress is like an energy that pushes us. Sometimes that energy is very positive. For example, when we get a raise or promotion at work we feel great. Similarly, when anything good happens to us we are energized and uplifted.

But what happens when that stress is what I call a negative stress. Then we are obligated to respond. There are times when that negative stress is over-whelming such as a severe injury or illness and it’s difficult to respond. Our response here is to seek help.

And other times our responses are angry responses, which many of us exhibit as the result of a real or perceived aggression against us, very often leading to inappropriate behavior, rage, physical or verbal abuse and difficult relationships.

Anger Management Training will teach you how to handle your Stress and Anger responses while also helping you to improve your Communication skills and your Emotional Intelligence or your understanding of the meanings of what others are saying in your relationships.

If you have recurring episodes of aggressive, angry behavior, you should seek Anger Management Training. It will improve your life, your health and your relationships.

Who Needs Anger Management?

You are the perfect candidate for Anger Management if you have recurrent episodes of angry outbursts or rage.

In Anger Management classes you will learn that anger is learned and as long as the angry responses are appropriate, that is not injurious physically or verbally to yourself or anyone else, they are quite normal.

You will be taught how to control your anger, how to manage the stresses you face daily, how to improve your communications ability and how to enhance your emotional intelligence or the understanding of what other people mean in their conversations with you.

These classes will improve your anger issues, improve your relationships with the opposite sex, with your relatives, co-workers and friends, and with your clients or customers and employer. Also, over time, they will help to improve your health.

EMPATHY and ANGER!

Empathy is the capacity to understand, to be aware of, to be sensitive to and in many ways to experience the feelings, thoughts and emotions of another person especially if these factors have not been expressly communicated in an objective and explicit manner.

So, what does this mean?

It means being able to understand what another person is feeling in a conversation with you. If you can’t understand their feelings or thoughts (nor they yours) you could be headed for an angry outburst.

Nevada Anger Management Training Classes begin by first measuring your Interpersonal Assertion, your levels of Empathy and Stress Management, among other factors, by using the short version of the Conover Assessment Examination which will create an Anger Management Map. This map is a useful tool to see where you are at the outset and where you need to focus your new learning.

At the end of the course, the examination is again administered to measure your progress. The measurement of your progress will show how successful the new learning has been in assisting you to understand the feelings of others and in controlling your anger issues.

A Quote from Buddha!

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned!” – Buddha

So, what choices are there? One is to continue your life as it has been, with seriously raging anger issues. This is not a healthy choice because it puts you in harm’s way with others. It can also cause serious legal problems.

Another choice is to learn what causes your anger like stress, how to communicate better without anger and how to understand what other people are saying and meaning in their thoughts.

Anger is a learned response and a very aggressive response. It’s time to get those anger issues under control with new learning through Anger Management Training. Let Nevada Anger management improve your life.

Think About Your Life!

Think about your life!

Has an angry, raging, out of control response ruined an important relationship, or worse?

Have you lost the love, companionship and friendship of a loved one? Has a marriage failed? What about your relationship with your children, your relatives or co-workers and friends?

Raging anger is anger that’s out of control. This behavior is both unhealthy and can have serious consequences in any relationship.

Now is the time to take Anger Management Training to improve your life and health as well as your relationships.

Anger can be a Useful Response!

“Anyone can become angry. That is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose and in the right way is not easy.” – Aristotle

Anger can be a useful response in some situations. However if it gets out of hand, if it causes rage and inappropriate behavior with physical or mental abuse, then this is not healthy.

Anger is an aggressive state. It’s a response to aggression toward yourself by another person.

Anger Management Training will help you to understand your angry responses, will help you understand your stresses and how to communicate better and importantly, it will enhance your understanding of your emotions and those of your spouses, relatives, friends and co-workers.

Anger can be controlled and alleviated, in most cases, by Anger Management Training.

Does Anger Run in Families?

It may very well.

Babies are not born angry. Anger is learned. Since parents and siblings are role models for babies as they mature, what will they learn if they see anger? Can you pinpoint where your anger responses come from?

And what kind of role model are you playing for your children?

If you have had recurrent episodes of serious and inappropriate anger responses with physical or abusive behavior toward someone, you are a candidate for Anger Management Training.

ANGER, HOSTILITY and VIOLENCE

Anger is a strong feeling of displeasure and usually antagonism. For example you and another person have a disagreement or difference of opinion on a subject. The angry response is an aggressive response to that difference of opinion.

Hostility is an ongoing feeling of conflict, opposition, or resistance in thought or principle.

Violence is the exertion of physical force or rage so as to injure or abuse another person.

All of these are learned behaviors. They are the way you respond when you have no alternative means of response. They are set up by stress and fear and perhaps other forms of behavior as well.

Controlling your Stress and Anger and learning new methods of behavior will help to resolve your anger issues. Add in the Communications factors and you have improved your anger issues significantly. Lastly, learn to consider your emotions and those of your adversaries and suddenly, they’re not adversaries any longer.

Are your loved ones adversaries? Are your co-workers, employers and friends adversaries? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to relieve those adversarial titles and enjoy life?

Anger Management Training can teach you how to control your stress and anger, how to improve your communications skills and how to enhance your emotional intelligence.

Isn’t it time to relieve the Anger, Hostility and Violence and to have a more meaningful life with healthier relationships?

Curtailing Anger - A Novel Approach

Many times an angry outburst of rage will start with an argument. Sometimes this can be just a simple difference of opinion and other times it’s because someone has pressed the right buttons to get you started.

Here’s a novel approach to help curtail anger.

You don't have to attend every argument you're invited to! Perhaps you need to ask yourself, “What would happen if I don’t respond to this argument?”

That’s where communications and enhancing and understanding emotional intelligence come in.

Our Anger Management Classes will teach you Anger and Stress control while improving your Communications ability and promoting your understanding of Emotional Intelligence.

Having repeated angry outbursts can lead to severe problems in relationships with loved ones, co-workers and employers and friends.

Isn’t time you learned how to control those outbursts?

Take Back Control

Life is not the way it should be. It’s the way it is! It’s how you cope with it that makes the difference.

If you are exhibiting recurrent episodes of out of control anger and inappropriate behavior toward your spouse, your children, your co-workers or others, your coping mechanisms are not working properly because you never learned any other options. You learned anger at an early age and it’s grown to control your life.

Now, it’s time to get back the control you’ve lost, easily, by taking Anger Management Classes. It is not therapy or treatment. There are no medications used. What we do is to teach you to control your anger and stress, to improve your communications abilities and to enhance your emotional intelligence.

Simple! Take back your life, your family, your job, your dreams and suddenly you’re back in control.

Stress and Anger

Stress and anger are the two principal factors that can precipitate an inappropriate act of violence towards another person. Family members, friends, co-workers, employees or employers, business associates or even strangers can be the victims of this behavior.

While anger is a natural human emotion, it can sometimes get out of control and result in destructive interpersonal relationships, workplace issues, legal issues, and a less than desirable quality of life. Exhibiting anger can place you in harm's way and can create a serious disruption in normal relationships.

Instinctively, one's immediate reaction to anger is to respond aggressively. You cannot control what other people say, however, you can control your responses to what they say.

Anger Management classes teach you in a simple and effective way to control your responses by giving you the knowledge and understanding of your stress and anger, by enhancing your communication skills and by improving your emotional intelligence. Anger is a learned behavior rather than a mental or nervous disorder. Learned behavior which produces inappropriate responses needs to be unlearned or over-ridden by new learning.

Anger Management Education

"Education consists mainly in what we have unlearned." -- Mark Twain

How appropriate for this quote and Anger Management. Our training will give you the educational tools to control your Anger and Stress as well as help improve your Communications ability and also to enhance your Emotional Intelligence.

What are these components?

They are basically the means to unlearn your angry behavior which you started learning as a small child. By mastering these areas you will be more able to spot those things which cause you stress and anger, your buttons so to speak. By learning new communications ability you will be able to understand others more clearly and they you, and by enhancing your emotional intelligence will enhance your ability to understand your own emotions and those of your loved ones and other relationships.

If you have a history of severe anger responses with inappropriate behavior, chances are you have never been taught how to unlearn those factors which make you angry, even if you’ve been in therapy. Generally, therapists don't have the time to teach and maybe not the inclination.

Anger Management Education is not therapy. There are no medications used. All you need is the motivation to learn a new behavior.

Your new knowledge will make you happier and healthier and your intimate relationships, your friendly relationships and your business relationships will all improve.

What is Anger?

Anger is a normal emotion in our lives. It becomes abnormal when recurrent episodes of anger and rage affect our interpersonal relationships. Anger and rage are our learned responses to events which we cannot control. These events usually involve our loved ones, our friends or co-workers.

There are many times in our lives when we become upset at things that other people say or do. You cannot control what other people say, only your responses to what they say! Therefore, if you have experienced recurrent abnormal anger episodes, taking Anger Management Training classes will greatly enhance your ability to deal with your anger.

You’ve heard the expression about “people pressing your buttons”. They know how to get you upset, angry and in a rage. Perhaps it’s their way of controlling you! Wouldn’t it be great to no longer be affected by someone else “pressing your buttons?”

Anger Management Training will teach you how to control your anger, how to handle your stress, how to communicate more effectively and lastly, how to understand your emotions and those of others.

In short, Anger Management Training will improve your life and make you happier. Your relationships will improve and you will be healthier.

Yes, Anger Hurts!

Anger which causes inappropriate responses against your loved ones hurts. Are you getting overly angry against your spouse? Do you realize how that hurts them?

And yes, anger hurts you!

What about your young children? Angry responses against them hurt them as well. All they want to do is love you. How can they if there is anger in the air?

Can you love someone with whom you’re angry? Not easily.

Did you ever think about the fact that children are not born angry? They learn anger responses as they grow. And from where do you think they learn those responses? From your angry responses!

The last person anger hurts is you! How? Well, it’s really simple. Anger causes relationship problems. Relationship problems cause stress problems which cause additional anger. This can lead to broken relationships. And that hurts you!

Anger causes job problems with fellow employees and employers. Inappropriate anger responses in the workplace can mean the loss of your job. And that hurts not only you but your family too.

Anger contributes toward health problems, high blood pressure and heart disease to name a few.

Recurrent anger with physical or mental abuse hurts those you care about. I know you don’t want to hurt your spouse or children or even yourself. Do you?

If you exhibit anger related issues you are an ideal candidate for Anger Management Training. This training will teach you how to reduce your stress and control your anger. It will also teach you how to communicate better and it will show you how to understand the emotions of others as well as yourself.

Yes, there is a solution! Take control of your anger before it takes control of you!

Poor Communication & Anger

If you have anger issues, you should look at your communication abilities. Poor communication is a source of stress for both people in a conversation and could easily lead to severe anger issues and inappropriate behavior.

Does the communication problem have to be between spouses? Not at all! Adults communicate not only with spouses but with children, parents, friends, fellow employees and employers to name a few. Your communication should be appropriate for those persons with whom you’re communicating. It should be clear and concise and understandable to the other person just as the other person’s should be understandable to you.

And it should NOT include anger responses such as physical or mental abuse.

Anger Management Training will improve your communication abilities and along with stress and anger control and enhancement of emotional intelligence will offer you better relationships, improved intimacy and generally a healthier life.

Stress and Anger

Stress is a normal component of our lives. We are all subject to it. And we all handle it differently. One of those ways is to use our learned behavior to become angry in an attempt to control our stress and to further control an otherwise uncontrollable event.

Most of the time the anger response is normal. However, when that anger gets out of control and leads to physical or mental abuse against another person it can lead to severe responses. The inappropriate behavior is all that is known.

That’s where Anger Management Training can help. We teach how to control stress and anger. In addition we work to improve the individual’s ability to communicate. Lastly, we explore and improve emotional intelligence or the understanding of not only our own emotions but those of the people with whom we share interpersonal relationships.

Therefore, by understanding our stress and anger responses, learning new responses and un-learning previously learned behavior the management of our anger becomes easier.
