Anger Management Training is a Lesson in Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand one’s own feelings and behavior as well as the capacity to sense the feelings and needs of others and to utilize this information in a way that enhances interpersonal relationships.

Emotional Intelligence is also the capacity to create positive outcomes in your relationships with others and yourself.

Anger Management is a course designed to teach self-awareness, self-control, social awareness and relationship management. These are Daniel Golemans’s four domains of emotional intelligence as well as the core skill enhancements in anger management.

Therefore, all clients learn an important lesson by simply completing the comprehensive anger management assessment at intake. Skills in these areas are assessed prior to anger management classes.

Participants who score in the deficit or needs to improve categories are taught skill enhancement exercises which can be practised in all of their daily interactions with others. The key to increasing emotional intelligence and self-control is to practice skill enhancement in the areas in which your scores are in the deficit or average range. Assertive communication, empathy, stress management, anger management as well as relationship management are all part of anger management skill enhancement programs. (After George Anderson)

Anger Management Prevents Hostile Work Environment Claims

Enlightened Human Resource Managers recognize the value of taking action quickly when any violence in the workplace policy is violated. Doing nothing is an invitation to “hostile workplace” liability lawsuits.

Physical altercations are far less common than verbal behavior that is interpreted by the victim as demeaning, threatening, arrogant or disruptive.

Anger Management rather than counseling is the intervention of choice for interpersonal conflicts at work.

When mandating anger management to an employee, it is best for the Human Resource Manager to personally contact Dr. Steven J. Sinert, a Certified Anger Management Provider prior to making the referral.

Legitimate Anger Management Facilitators offer their services in person rather than on-line. We use Pre and Post Assessments for each client. We use client workbooks and provide anger management either individually or in small groups.

Finally, we are accustomed to working with Human Resource referrals and dealing with resistant clients. We are acutely aware of the need to provide appropriate feedback to Human Resource Managers. (After George Anderson)
