New Year Resolution Revisited!

Well, we are now in the last day of 2007. Tonight many of you will be celebrating the arrival of 2008. Some of you, though, will still harbor recurrent anger tendencies. These issues will remain un-resolved until you take the bull by the horns and resolve to address your anger in a productive way.

The anger responses which may be harmful are those which interfere with your normal interpersonal relationships. That anger may cause serious complications which can make your life miserable and destroy relationships.

Anger Management Training is a powerful approach to learn new techniques and to un-learn those behaviors which cause harm to you and your relationships. You will learn anger and stress control, techniques to improve your communications ability and ways to improve your emotional intelligence.

So, for 2008, resolve to control your anger before it controls you!

How Destructive is Your Anger?

When you have serious anger issues the results can be catastrophic. They can affect your interpersonal relationships with your spouse, your family, your friends, your co-workers or your employer.

Individuals with high levels of hostility report less marital satisfaction and more marital conflict than those without. And failure to deal effectively with anger can destroy intimacy and reek havoc on marital relationships. Is this a good enough reason to get your anger under control through Anger Management Classes? You can rest assured it is!

What about that anger against your children? Do you really need to spank them or worse? Is there a better alternative behavior on your part? Can Anger Management Classes teach you this? Without question!

Did you know that anger is the leading cause of job termination? Anger is not a good response in the work place whether directed against a fellow employee or your employer. Can Anger Management Classes teach you new alternative responses to your anger? Absolutely!

What about in everyday situations like driving an automobile for instance? Anger may be a factor in more than half of all automobile accidents. And I’m sure you’ve heard of road rage. That is an anger response. And what will you do if you become enraged on the road? Go after the perpetrator? Capture them? Beat them up? Put your life at risk or the lives of your passengers or others? Can Anger Management Classes help before the anger gets out of control? Definitely!

Anger is a stronger predictor of heart disease than high cholesterol, smoking or high blood pressure. Recurrent anger issues are a serious threat to your health and need to be resolved through training? Can Anger Management Classes improve your health? Surely!

Here I have presented several common, but by no means all, situations in which re-occurring angry responses can cause serious relationship, health and even life-threatening challenges. Isn’t it time for you to take charge of your Anger before it takes its toll on you?

Why Anger?

Is an angry response to something we desire but cannot have or to a situation we cannot control the only way to respond? Obviously this is not true. So why do people continue to respond this way?

Anger is a normal emotion which is usually not a severe problem.

However, when it causes difficulties in our relationships with our loved ones, with our co-workers or employers, when it is a recurring problem or when it leads to physical distress affecting our health, or worse, when it leads to physical attacks upon others, this anger needs to be addressed.

Anger is a learned response. It begins in childhood and only grows as we get older. It seems to us that getting angry will get us the response we desire. But is that really the case? Are there alternative responses to the things we’re trying to control?

The way to effect a change is to unlearn the angry behavior. And the only effective way to do this is through Anger Management Training classes.

This is not hard to do. The classes are relatively easy but do require your motivation and desire to make a significant change in your behavior.

If you have ever hit your spouse or have ever become involved in an angry, physical altercation, or if you have a recurring history of anger related issues, then perhaps you should consider Anger Management Training.

There are many ways to resolve anger issues. Anger does not have to be part of your life or your relationships.

Can Humor Help Relieve Anger?

It has been said that humor can make you feel good. It can improve your health. It can ease your stress, anxiety and fears. And most importantly it might even reduce your anger.

A humorous thought or joke can not only make you smile and laugh, it can cause the release of endorphins in the brain which will have the effect of producing a feeling of well being. And that in turn can reduce blood pressure, stress, anxieties, fears and anger.

Remember that anger is a normal emotion. It becomes abnormal when that anger evokes a response that may be harmful to our interpersonal relationships.

Everyone loves a good joke or humorous story. Of course, what might be humorous to one individual might not be to another. However, by reading or listening to a few jokes or humorous stories we are sure to find a few which will cause a smile or even a good laugh.

We have all heard that laughter is the best medicine. It won’t cure a broken bone and it might not heal a serious illness. But it might just make you better able to cope with a situation which in turn might be producing fear, anxiety, stress and anger.

And if we can manage anger, we can all feel a whole lot better.

Why Anger Management?

It has been said that “if you, your co-workers, family members or friends think that your anger is a problem, take it seriously and get the professional help you need. Anger is a normal human emotion. However, it is a problem when angry behavior impacts interpersonal relationships. Here are some clues to help you determine if your anger is in the normal, acceptable range or if your anger is affecting your relationships or health:

- Your anger is too frequent.
- Your anger is too intense.
- Your anger lasts too long.
- Your anger is causing health problems.
- Your anger is affecting your relationships.
- Your anger is leading to conflicts with others.
- Your anger is resulting in person or property directed aggression.

If any three of the above conditions are true in your situation, you need to seek an assessment from a Certified Anger Management Provider.

Since anger is not a mental or nervous disorder, it is not responsive to counseling, psychotherapy or medication. Intervention for anger is not covered by health insurance.” **
**(George Anderson, MSW, BCD, CAMF, CEAP Diplomate, American Association of Anger Management Providers)

A Certified Anger Management Facilitator can teach you how to control your anger, how to control your stress, how to improve your communication skills and how to improve your emotional intelligence. Once you learn these new skills, your life and interpersonal relationships can improve dramatically.

Remember, babies are not born angry. Anger is a learned response to stress and a normal emotion. It becomes abnormal when interpersonal relationships with loved ones or co- workers is jeopardized by physical angry responses.

Your motivation to take Anger Management training is to ultimately enjoy a happier and more productive life with few anger related issues.

Anger Management New Year's Resolution

As we approach the New Year we’re all starting to think about some things to include in our New Year’s Resolutions. Here’s one you may not have thought about lately.

How about a resolution to reduce your anger?

Anger is a normal emotion. It is a learned response to stress, to others and to situations which we may not like. Sometimes, it can get out of hand and cause serious problems in our everyday relationships. Anger responses which cause situations that endanger yourself or others are a serious problem.

So, how do you reduce your anger? It’s actually quite easy. It requires you to unlearn your previous learned behavior and to substitute a new learned response to the factors which made you angry in the first place. This can be done through Anger Management Training. These classes are not therapy! No medications are necessary! There is no stigma attached to taking these classes. And there is no criticism. They just require your motivation to have a better life.

Anger Management classes teach you how to respond differently and how to control your anger responses, how to control stress, how to communicate more effectively and how to understand better the communications and emotions of others.

With your motivation to learn, you can lead a better life with more fulfilling relationships. The training received in Anger Management classes can be a life altering experience and even something that can make you feel good.

Wouldn’t you just love to improve the relationships between yourself and other family members, or, how about between yourself and your co-workers and employers, or, between yourself and friends?

The Holiday season can lead to many angry situations. At this time of year, making resolutions can be difficult and perhaps even more difficult to follow through on them. We all know how many resolutions we’ve made over the years which somehow just fade away. Anger Management will be with you for a very long time. Go ahead, take that initial step and contact a Certified Anger Management Provider in your area.

Oh, and have a Happy, Anger-free New Year!
